This weekend, IndieCade, one of the most exciting events in video games will be going on at the University of Southern California. I dare say video games because despite the event being focused on independent game developers, IndieCade is an event that all lovers of video games, not just indie games should be excited for. So let me fill you in on why IndieCade hype transcends gamer archetypes and is worthy of all kinds of hype.
Games games and more games. Did I mention IndieCade features a multitude of some of the best indie games in existence? Also did I mention that you can play these games and talk to some of the developers while you play their amazing games? Well, that is just one of the many aspects of IndieCade that makes the exposition so exhilarating.
The massive amount of indie games featured on Humble Bundle or Steam can make it difficult to decide on what games are worth forking over money for. This common gamer quandary is just one of the reasons why IndieCade is beneficial to gamers of all kinds. Rather than scrolling through pages of reviews on Steam, Google, or Metacritic you can look at some of the marvelous games featured or awarded at IndieCade and have a better reference when it comes to choosing gaming investments.

Not all of the games featured at IndieCade will be available online, nonetheless, they are worth checking out because they touch upon another amazing facet of IndieCade, diversity.
When it comes to AAA game releases it’s rare to see something imaginative or different. Not that there is anything wrong with a standard FPS or RPG but sometimes it’s nice to see a game that stands out. By standing out, I don’t just mean a game with unique graphics, I also mean a game that challenges today’s norms.
Gamers come in all forms, something I can attest to as a professional woman who still plays Super Smash Bros. Melee competitively. Which is one of the reasons why I love IndieCade, not only does it embrace different games, it also embraces the diverse array of gamers across an immense spectrum of interests in video games. That’s one of the reasons why, two years ago, I covered a unique game that was about exploring femininity and sexuality called “how do you Do it?” created by Nina Freeman and Emmett Butler.

IndieCade is continually expanding on their diversity driven features by hosting “The Gaming For Everyone Exhibit” (presented by Intel) and features exciting charities and organizations that work to facilitate groups that were not traditionally identified as belonging to the gaming community but have grown in visibility the last few years.
The bottom line is IndieCade is an exciting event that every gamer should be paying attention to, since it features some of the most interesting independent games and is a wonderful way to learn more about gaming’s culture and its evolution.
